Winner of the Trabzon Culture and Art Center Competition Announced
Located at the intersection of historical and urban focal points, the design aims to bring the city's public life together with its historical fabric.
The design prepared by Buğrahan Miraç Eser, Didem Altun, Yenal Akgün, Hikmet Sivri Gökmen and their teams was selected as the winner of the Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Culture and Art Center National Architectural Project Competition.
The Design Winning First Place in the Competition

Location Within Historical Focal Points
It is positioned within a significant series of historical and urban focal points extending from the Gülbahar Hatun Mosque and Tomb and Atapark to the Historical Trabzon Walls, Zağnos Valley, Zağnos Bastion, and Zağnos Pasha Bridge.
LEGATO Concept and Urban Threshold
The project was approached as an urban threshold connecting the city's historical fabric with contemporary public life and was designed with a continuous urban stage concept named LEGATO.
Sloping Platforms and Roof Arrangement
Structured beneath two sloping platforms starting from the levels where the Gülbahar Hatun Bridge touches the land, the roof of the building has been made a part of pedestrian and recreation areas.
Transportation and Stepped Plaza Plan
Extending the light rail system line from the Atapark station to the project area and creating a stepped urban plaza were envisioned during the planning phase.
Features of Opera and Theater Halls
The opera house located in the center was configured with a traditional horseshoe plan scheme featuring two balconies, while the theater hall was configured with an auditorium plan scheme featuring a single balcony.
Acoustic Planning and Target Durations
Addressing the acoustic requirements of the halls with different characters, target reverberation times of 1.6-1.8 seconds for the opera house and 1.0-1.2 seconds for the theater hall were adopted.
