Consumer complaints regarding hotels and resorts surged rapidly in July

According to Şikayetvar data, consumer complaints regarding hotels and resorts showed a significant increase in July. Total complaints across five holiday categories reached thousands.

During July, the peak period of the summer vacation, consumer complaints directed at the tourism sector registered a major increase compared to the previous month. Şikayetvar data showed that complaints regarding hotels and resorts rose by 168 percent on a monthly basis.

Hotel and Resort Complaints

According to Şikayetvar data, consumer complaints regarding hotels and resorts increased by 168 percent in July compared to the previous month. In this category, the number of complaints, which was 560 in June, rose to the level of 1,500 in July.

Chain Hotels and Marketing Sites

Complaints regarding chain hotels increased by 109 percent, rising from 215 to 450. The number of complaints recorded on hotel marketing sites also showed a 92 percent increase.

Villas, Houses, and Tour Operators

Complaint notifications regarding villa and house marketing sites increased by 90 percent, rising from 136 to 259. Complaints concerning tour operators and holiday marketing companies rose by 50 percent, from 997 to 1,495.

Total Increase Across Five Categories

When considering all five different holiday categories, it was observed that the total number of complaints, which was 2,538 in June, reached the level of 4,912 in July with a 94 percent increase.

Cleaning and Hygiene Issues

At the top of the problems voiced by consumers in the hotel and resort category were cleaning and hygiene. The failure to clean rooms sufficiently and the failure of bed linen and bathrooms to meet hygiene standards stood out.

Food and Service Quality

In all-inclusive hotels, the inadequacy of food variety and food quality became a subject of complaint. In addition, notifications regarding discrepancies between the purchased room or service and the service provided at the facility increased.

Staff Attitude and Fee Processes

Staff attitude, additional fee requests, and problems experienced in fee refund processes were on the agenda of consumers. Especially in high-priced facilities, the difference between expectations and the service provided created complaints.
