Secret Foundry and Production Purpose
Elon Musk confirmed that SpaceX has built a secret foundry in the city of Bastrop, Texas. The primary purpose of this facility is to produce the natural gas turbine blades and valves necessary for artificial intelligence data centers in-house.
Goal of Accelerating the Production Process
While orders from existing manufacturers span many years, it is stated that this in-house casting operation could shorten the commissioning time of natural gas turbines to up to 18 months. Musk argues that natural gas will be necessary for a long time to support solar energy.
Production Challenges and Environmental Concerns
Only four companies worldwide are capable of producing these special turbine blades, which must be cast as a single crystal. On the other hand, the rapid deployment of the turbines is being criticized in regions like Memphis and Virginia due to environmental pollution and health risks.
