Google Announces New Memory Criteria for Android Apps

In response to the memory chip scarcity driven by the growth of AI data centers, Google has announced new performance and memory optimization requirements for Android app developers.

Hardware Constraints and New Decisions

Technology giant Google is preparing to take significant steps within the Android ecosystem due to hardware supply constraints facing the mobile sector.

To prevent this situation from negatively impacting the consumer experience, new performance thresholds have been established in areas such as dynamic memory and bitmap usage.

Timeframe Granted to Developers

App and game developers have until February 2027 to comply with the new standards.

These rules aim to prevent memory issues experienced on low-end devices.

New Tools and Features Introduced

Google has rolled out new tools that will provide warnings to developers if they exceed the specified thresholds.

Later in the year, diagnostic tools including the Memory Limiter feature, which will prevent apps from consuming excessive memory, will be added.

Sign-In Standards

Google is also mandating that all Play Store apps meet the Zero-Touch Sign-In requirement for device transitions by April 2027.

Thanks to this standard, users' sign-in information will be automatically restored using the Android Restore Credentials API.
