OpenAI is expanding the ad tests it launched on the ChatGPT platform to new markets and countries outside the United States.

Scope of Ad Tests

OpenAI initially launched ad trials on the ChatGPT platform in the United States on the Free and Go subscription tiers. With the updates made, these tests have been expanded to include Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, and South Korea. The company aims to learn from real-world usage through these regional pilot programs.

Privacy and Security Measures

Protecting user privacy stands out as one of the top priorities in the ongoing ad tests. Advertisers cannot access users' chat history, conversations, memories, or personal details. Furthermore, ads are not displayed to users under the age of 18 or around sensitive topics such as health and politics.

Answer Independence and Transparency

Ads shown in the system do not affect ChatGPT's unbiased and independent AI-generated answers in any way. Sponsored content is visually completely separated from organic answers and clearly labeled. Users also have the right to dismiss ads and manage personalization settings.

User Control and Options

Users who do not wish to see ads on the Free and Go tiers can upgrade to the Plus or Pro plans. Alternatively, ads can be disabled on the Free tier in exchange for a lower daily message limit. While users can delete the ads they see with a single tap, they can also manage their ad data.
