With the new communiqué published by the Ministry of Health, the pre-hospital intervention flowcharts applied in 112 emergency health services have been updated and entered into force. With the updated guide, standard protocols have been established in many areas ranging from acute stroke to disaster triage, crush syndrome to agitated patient management.

Three Main Sections and New Standard in Stroke Screening

The renewed "Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Assistance and Care Flowcharts" were arranged in 78 subcategories under 3 main sections: Adult, Birth and Newborn, and Child Algorithms. The BEFAST screening method was added to the algorithm so that healthcare personnel can quickly diagnose acute stroke cases in the field.

According to the new principles, establishing coordination with the Command and Control Center in scene management has been made mandatory.

Disaster Triage and Interventions Under Debris

In cases of mass casualties and disasters, the Start Triage system, lasting less than 1 minute, will be applied for adult patients, while the Jump Start Triage system will be applied for children under 8 years of age. Intervention steps for Crush Syndrome for people trapped under debris in situations such as earthquakes and accidents were also clarified under a separate heading.

Agitated Patient and Birth Case Management

Communicative and medical steps were standardized by opening the heading Approach to the Agitated Patient for cases exhibiting extreme restlessness and aggressiveness. In addition, intervention steps for diabetic crises, poisonings, carbon monoxide cases, and snake and scorpion bites were renewed.

Within the framework of the Birth and Newborn Algorithms, pre-hospital emergency assistance standards were determined for acute hypertension developing during pregnancy and dangerous postpartum hemorrhage following childbirth.
