Hockey success in Kırklareli stretching from school corridors to the Turkish championship

Thanks to school screenings and infrastructure efforts carried out within the body of the Kırklareli Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports, a significant success was achieved in field hockey. Athletes discovered through promotions that began in school corridors and on concrete floors secured first place at the Under-17 Girls Turkey Hockey Championship.

Promotion efforts starting in school corridors

As a result of screenings conducted in schools by hockey coaches from the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports in Kırklareli, talented students were directed to the field hockey branch.

For this sport, which was previously little known in the city, initial steps were taken to make children love the sport by utilizing school corridors, concrete floors, and grass areas.

Increase in the number of athletes with infrastructure investments

Thanks to efforts transformed into the Ministry of Youth and Sports summer sports schools and performance groups, the number of active athletes in the city rose to 120.

While the total number of students enrolled in summer sports schools exceeds 200, approximately 60 athletes continue to participate in daily training sessions.

Under-17 Girls Turkey Championship

Following the infrastructure and preparation efforts carried out, the Kırklareli team achieved a major success by finishing first in the Under-17 Girls Turkey Hockey Championship.

Following this important championship, a total of ten names—eight girls and two boys—were invited to the national team candidate squads.

Athletes' national team and championship goals

Fourteen-year-old Sevcan Yılmaz, who is in the championship squad, stated that she aims to wear the crescent-and-star jersey by training six days a week for a total of eighteen hours.

Twelve-year-old Beren Baki, meanwhile, expressed that thanks to field hockey, the time she spends in front of the screen has decreased, and they are proud to be Turkey champions as a team.
