Suspect Accused of Damaging WWII Memorial Indicted by Federal Grand Jury

Melissa Farris, who allegedly defaced the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. with bright pink spray paint and poured foam soap into its pool, has been formally indicted by a federal grand jury.

Vandalism Incident at the Memorial

Melissa Farris, identified as being from Kentucky, is accused of damaging the World War II Memorial in the capital. According to authorities, the suspect poured foam soap into the pool at the center of the memorial.

It was also noted that the phrase 'Clean hands, dirty money' was spray-painted in bright pink onto the memorial.

Federal Charges and Legal Process

As a result of the investigation conducted by federal prosecutors, two separate charges were brought against Farris. These charges include the destruction of a veterans' memorial and damage to government property.

U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro publicly announced that the offenses in question carry up to ten years in prison.

Social Media Confession and Detention

It was determined that the suspect broadcasted a live stream on a social media platform the day after the incident, just before turning herself in to law enforcement. In this broadcast, Farris confessed to carrying out the act.

According to findings by authorities, it was stated that the cleaning and restoration costs of the memorial have already exceeded one thousand dollars.
