AI Cloud Company Lambda Secures $1 Billion in Debt for Chip Investments
Lambda secured $1 billion in private debt financing through JP Morgan Chase to purchase Nvidia chips for lease to Microsoft.
AI cloud company Lambda has finalized a $1 billion private and short-term debt agreement arranged by JP Morgan Chase to purchase Nvidia artificial intelligence chips that it plans to lease to Microsoft.
Details of the Financing Agreement
Lambda, which purchases AI chips and leases them to businesses, has added a new initiative to its financing operations. The company secured $1 billion in private and short-term debt to procure Nvidia AI chips to be leased to Microsoft.
The terms of this deal, arranged by JP Morgan Chase, indicate that the company aims to quickly deploy the chips to generate revenue and pay off the debt in a short time with that cash flow.
Infrastructure Investments and Credit Moves
This agreement represents the latest in a series of borrowing moves Lambda has undertaken to finance GPU infrastructure for specific customers.
While the company secured a $1 billion secured credit facility in May, it announced this week the closing of a $926 million loan to finance Nvidia GB300 GPUs, one of Nvidia's newest models.
Market Position and Future Plans
This $1 billion private debt deal coincides with a period when Lambda is holding talks for a $3 billion pre-IPO funding round.
According to PitchBook data, the company received $1.5 billion in venture capital investment last November at a market valuation of $5.43 billion.
Borrowing Trend in the AI Sector
Lambda is not the only one resorting to borrowing in the sector; according to data compiled by Bloomberg, banks and tech companies have reached over $400 billion in global AI-related borrowings in 2026.
