Trabzon Art House, which has hosted art activities for about 20 years and whose protocol was terminated by the Trabzon Governorship and transferred to Trabzon University, has published a new appeal for the eviction decision to be withdrawn.

New Appeal for the Art House

Trabzon Art House, which has been at the center of culture and art activities in Trabzon for 20 years, made a new statement against the decision to evacuate the historical building it occupies.

In the published visual appeal, it was emphasized that the institution is not just a building, but an important part of the city's artistic memory and shared consciousness, and a request was made for the decision to be withdrawn.

Historical Building Allocated to the University

In the official letter sent by the Trabzon Governorship, it was stated that the usage protocol of the historical building has been terminated and the structure has been allocated for the use of Trabzon University.

The components of the Art House stated that while they understand the importance of the university's needs, art and education should not be pitted against each other, demanding that public interests not be put into conflict.

Twenty Years of Artistic Memory

Hosting many events such as theater performances, concerts, exhibitions, talks, and workshops since 2007, the structure brings together associations from different artistic disciplines.

It is stated that the building, where long-standing events like International Art Days are also held, represents an urban memory integrated with the space, far beyond a transient relationship.

Solutions and Support Letters

Poet and writer Mustafa Ruhi Şirin sent letters to Governor Tahir Şahin and Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç, asking for the decision to be reassessed.

Stating that other public buildings could be considered for the university's needs, Şirin pointed out that the components of the Art House should not be left without a venue.

Resignation Decision in the City Council

Following the ongoing eviction debates, Adnan Taç, the founder and former president of Trabzon Art House, announced his resignation from the Trabzon City Council Executive Board.

Taç explained the reason for his decision as the Trabzon City Council remaining silent in the face of the eviction process and stated that this situation damages his identity as an artist.

Social Media Shares Continue

Artists, writers, and art lovers continue to make posts on social media under the hashtag "Do Not Touch the Art House," demanding that the building be preserved for its culture and art function.

In this process that has resonated widely with the public, it is expected that the eviction procedure will be halted and a joint solution found that will not destroy nearly 20 years of accumulated heritage.
