The BIST 100 index on Borsa Istanbul opened the day with a decrease of 37.29 points and 0.25 percent at 14,604.26 points compared to the previous close. Having completed the previous day with a buying-weighted trend at 14,641.56 points, the index started the day with a decline.
Sectoral Changes and Markets
While the banking index gained 0.15 percent, the holding index lost 0.08 percent in value. Among the sectors, the chemical, petroleum, and plastic sector gained the most with 1.46 percent, while the financial leasing and factoring sector declined the most with 9.05 percent.
Global Markets and Geopolitical Developments
Global markets are following a negative course as U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh's statements at Jackson Hole strengthened expectations for rate hikes. In addition, increasing geopolitical tensions triggered by the U.S. military's attack on Iran's Lark Island triggered selling pressure.
Observed Data and Technical Levels
In the markets, domestic growth data are being monitored, while abroad, inflation in Germany and the Dallas Fed manufacturing activity index in the U.S. are being tracked. From a technical perspective, 14,500 and 14,400 points are support levels, and 14,800 and 14,900 points are resistance levels for the BIST 100 index.
