Turkey Becomes the European Union's Fifth Largest Trading Partner

The European Statistical Office (Eurostat) has released international trade data for the second quarter of 2026. According to this data, Turkey has positioned itself as the fifth country with which the European Union conducts the most imports and exports.

European Union Trade Data Released

The European Statistical Office has shared international goods trade statistics for the second quarter of 2026 with the public. According to the released data, the European Union imported goods totaling 701.8 billion euros from countries outside the Union. In the same period, total exports realized to these countries stood at the level of 680 billion euros.

Growth Rates in Imports and Exports

A significant increase was recorded in the European Union's foreign trade volume compared to the same period of last year. Import figures showed an increase of 11.7 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. On the export side, there was a rise of 4.5 percent.

Leading Countries in Import Rankings

China ranked at the top of the countries from which the European Union made the most imports. The Union carried out imports from China amounting to 153.6 billion euros and a 21.9 percent share. China was followed respectively by the US with 98.7 billion euros, the United Kingdom with 43.4 billion euros, and Switzerland with 36.9 billion euros.

Turkey's Position in Imports

The amount of imports made by the European Union from Turkey was recorded as 25.5 billion euros in the second quarter of 2026. With this figure, Turkey took its place as the fifth country from which the European Union imports the most.

Leading Countries in Export Markets

The country to which the European Union exports the most was the US with 127.7 billion euros. This country was followed by the United Kingdom with 92.7 billion euros, Switzerland with 60.5 billion euros, and China with 50.3 billion euros.

Turkey's Place in Exports and Total Volume

The European Union's exports towards Turkey stood at the level of 27.3 billion euros. With this result, Turkey also ranked fifth in exports made from outside the Union. Meanwhile, the total trade volume between the two sides reached 52.8 billion euros in the second quarter period.
