Pollen Robotics, a unit of Hugging Face, has introduced Microduck, an open-source AI robot capable of roller skating, grabbing objects, and communicating through sound. The single-eyed robot, standing nearly 10 inches tall, is now available for pre-order.
Physical Features and Capabilities
Microduck is designed as a single-eyed, bipedal AI robot standing under 10 inches tall. In addition to its ability to roller skate, the robot can pick up and direct objects such as socks or pens.
Capable of interacting with its environment, the robot can follow laser pointers. Users can control the robot via a game controller or program it through its open-source software.
Hardware Structure and Communication Skills
Powered by a Rockchip RK3566 processor, Microduck is equipped with a camera, motion sensors, and LiDAR technology. The device performs its environmental perception capabilities using these hardware components.
The robot has a permanent and unique voice identity created upon its initial activation. Thanks to this feature, the device can communicate with its users by producing creature-like special sounds.
Pricing and Delivery Process
The product has been offered for pre-order with a price tag of $399 in four distinct color options. Pollen Robotics stated that the shipments of the robot are targeted to be completed before the Christmas 2026 period.
