USC and UCLA Launch Digital Humanities and Artificial Intelligence Undergraduate Majors
Universities in the US are launching new undergraduate programs focused on artificial intelligence and digital technologies to meet changing workforce demands.
The University of Southern California (USC) and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) announced the launch of new undergraduate programs covering artificial intelligence and digital tools with the start of the new academic year.
Artificial Intelligence Undergraduate Education at USC
The Mark and Mary Stevens Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence within the USC Viterbi School of Engineering is launching its first undergraduate artificial intelligence program. Within the scope of the program, students will learn to design, develop, and apply artificial intelligence systems in various fields such as robotics, agriculture, and drug discovery.
Students are also expected to take mandatory ethics courses during this educational process.
Steps by UCLA and Other California Universities
An independent Department of Digital Humanities is being established within UCLA, offering a new undergraduate program that integrates artificial intelligence and digital tools into the social sciences and humanities disciplines.
While other institutions in California, such as UC Santa Barbara and San Diego State, are opening AI-focused undergraduate programs, universities such as UC Berkeley and Stanford offer dedicated graduate degrees or areas of specialization.
