Critical Warnings from Experts Against Scorpion Risk in Metropolises

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Aydın, Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Toxicology, stated that citizens must be cautious against scorpion cases seen in metropolises and humid environments, and shared important measures.

Scorpion Threat and Living Areas in Metropolises

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Aydın reported that scorpions can be located in grassy areas, construction ruins, and bushes, as well as rural areas. Aydın emphasized that in humid provinces such as Istanbul, these creatures can even enter inside homes.

Venomous Species and Sting Symptoms

It was stated that out of thousands of species worldwide, approximately 70 can lead to severe poisoning, while in Turkey, venomous species are found especially in Southeastern Anatolia and humid regions. While pain and swelling can be seen in the stung area, palpitations may occur in cases of severe poisoning.

Simple Precautions That Can Be Taken at Home

It was noted that there may be other scorpions around a scorpion, and a mother scorpion can give birth to nearly 60 young. It was requested that window screens be installed and brush piles not be kept in gardens.

Checking Shoes and Clothes

It was conveyed that scorpions do not attack people out of nowhere, but react when stepped on. It was reiterated that clothes and shoes left outside during the summer months must definitely be checked before being worn.
