Child Who Survived Nepal Disaster by Climbing Tree Reunited with Mother

Eight-year-old Zoyal Ghale, who managed to survive the flash floods in Nepal by fleeing into the forest and climbing trees, has been reunited with his mother at the hospital where he was brought for injuries.

Escape from the Flood Disaster

Avalanches and landslides triggered by the collapse of glaciers near Mount Langtang Lirung caused a major disaster in the region. Eight-year-old Zoyal Ghale managed to survive by entering a forested area and climbing trees to escape the floodwaters.

Evacuated to Hospital with Injuries

The young boy, who suffered an injury to his leg and cuts on his face, was evacuated alone by helicopter from the Rasuwa district to a hospital. Their mother, believing both of her children had died, began searching for them in shelters and checkpoints.

Communication Established Thanks to Journalist

Mother Matti Maya Tamang obtained the phone number of Reuters journalist Sahana Bajracharya, who had seen her younger son at a hospital in Nuwakot. After the journalist informed her that the boy was alive and had been transferred to Kathmandu, the mother rushed to the hospital.

Status of Family Members

It was reported that mother Tamang found her younger son alive as well, and the father, who works as a construction laborer in Japan, was on his way back. While thousands of people remain missing due to the disaster, numerous children have also been affected.
