Search operations for the destruction and missing persons continue across Nepal and China in the wake of flash floods and landslides in the Himalayas. With thousands of children affected by the disaster, the United Nations has allocated emergency humanitarian funding and international organizations have launched operations on the ground.
Emergency funds and international support
United Nations emergency relief chief Tom Fletcher announced the release of an initial $2 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund to meet life-saving needs for medical care, shelter, and water.
Severe destruction toll in Nepal
In Nepal's Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading districts, urgent humanitarian needs have reached immense proportions. Families are facing massive challenges such as missing persons, displacement, and the disruption of basic services.
Thousands of children affected by the disaster
UNICEF reported that at least 17,000 children have been directly affected by the disaster, with homes, classrooms, and health facilities damaged.
It was emphasized that surviving children face heightened risks such as disease outbreaks, malnutrition, and violence.
Casualties in China and the Tibet region
While authorities report that approximately 560 people are still missing on the Chinese side, the UN country office also reported significant damage and casualties in the Tibet Autonomous Region.
Health and food shipments
The World Health Organization dispatched emergency health kits containing medicines and supplies to provide essential healthcare for 10,000 people, along with multi-purpose tents.
The World Food Programme and UNICEF mobilized to send trucks carrying personnel and relief supplies to the region.

It is stated that the collapse of a high glacier in the steep valleys of the Himalayas is the likely cause of the flash floods and landslides that have wiped out entire communities.
