Serving as the flagship for Carrier Strike Group 5, the USS George Washington is accompanied by warships such as the guided-missile cruiser USS Robert Smalls and the guided-missile destroyer USS Shoup.
Command and Operations
Rear Adm. Jeff Heames, commander of Carrier Strike Group Five, emphasized that the crews are fully prepared for sustained operations. The strike group conducts its activities in the Middle East under the U.S. Central Command.
