AI and robotics drive an IPO boom in China as Shein lists in Hong Kong

China's financial markets are experiencing a vibrant IPO period, supported by intense investor interest in artificial intelligence and high-tech sectors. In this context, e-commerce giant Shein is preparing to trade on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange with a $1.7 billion initial public offering.

IPO Wave in Hong Kong and Shanghai Markets

Chinese-origin markets are going through an active period with new IPOs driven by the craze for advanced technology and artificial intelligence. Companies are choosing to list their shares in Hong Kong and Shanghai.

As Shein takes its step onto the stock exchange with a $1.7 billion IPO in Hong Kong, this move ranks among the largest share sales of the year.

Success of AI and Chip Manufacturing Companies

In July, CXMT, China's largest memory chip manufacturer, raised over $8.6 billion on Shanghai's STAR market. The company's shares registered a massive surge on their first trading day.

This IPO played a significant role in China's rise to a strategic position in AI-driven technology manufacturing.

Entry of Robotics Firms into the Market and Interest

Leading humanoid robot manufacturer Unitree also carried out an IPO in Shanghai in August, gaining value on its first day.

Industry experts state that the current IPO boom stems primarily from the appetite of investors turning toward the fields of artificial intelligence and robotics.

Investment Volumes and Global Position of Stock Exchanges

According to LSEG data, IPO and secondary listing activities on the Hong Kong and Shanghai stock exchanges achieved a total exceeding $54 billion.

These figures reveal that these two exchanges hold a prominent global ranking and have surpassed last year's total.

Investors' Sustainability and Valuation Concerns

Market experts emphasize that for the AI enthusiasm to be enduring, investors will demand sustainable revenues and realistic valuations.

Additionally, it is stated that the intense AI-focused investment cycle has also reduced the risk appetite expected to be directed toward other companies like Shein.
