Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation Cooperation Between Vietnam and Japan
Ministers of Vietnam and Japan met in Tokyo and decided to cooperate in the fields of artificial intelligence models tailored to Vietnamese language and culture, digital infrastructure, and personnel training.
Vietnamese Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan and Japanese Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Fujii Hisayuki agreed to implement joint projects in the fields of digital transformation and artificial intelligence during their meeting in Tokyo.
Critical Meeting in Tokyo
Vietnamese Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan and Japanese Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Fujii Hisayuki held a working meeting in Tokyo on the morning of October 2, 2026.
Concrete steps to deepen the technological partnership between the two countries were discussed at this meeting.
Implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding
The two countries agreed on a plan for the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on Information Technology, Communication, and Digital Transformation Cooperation signed on May 2, 2026.
This memorandum of understanding had been signed during Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae's visit to Vietnam.
Artificial Intelligence and Cultural Adaptation
During the meeting, joint data creation processes aimed at developing artificial intelligence models specifically suited to the Vietnamese language and culture were addressed.
In addition, human resources training and critical areas connected to artificial intelligence security were evaluated in detail.
Infrastructure and Future Plans
The Japanese side plans to send representatives to the artificial intelligence workshop within the scope of the International Digital Week to be held in Vietnam.
The two ministers also discussed the Japan-ASEAN AI Co-Creation Initiative and covered digital infrastructure issues such as 5G networks, Open RAN, and data centers.
