Huawei announces new generation artificial intelligence chips and infrastructure systems
Huawei shared its new chip roadmap alongside AI-focused Ascend GPU models and Atlas SuperPoD systems with the public.
Huawei Deputy Chairman Wang Tao introduced the company's new Ascend graphics processing units developed for artificial intelligence technologies, Atlas SuperPoD infrastructure systems, and future chip roadmap.
New Generation Ascend Chip Roadmap
At the opening of the conference, Huawei Deputy Chairman Wang Tao shared the schedule for the new processors developed by the company for the training of artificial intelligence models and data processing operations. It was announced that the new Ascend 960DT chip will be launched in the first quarter of 2027, and the Ascend 960PR chip in the third quarter of the same year.
Chip Models for Future Years
It was stated that the new generation members of the company's Ascend chip family, the Ascend 970 and Ascend 980 models, will meet with users in 2028 and 2029, respectively. These new products are aimed at increasing capacity in the field of artificial intelligence.
Importance of Current Systems
Huawei's currently in-use Ascend 950 graphics processor closes an important technological gap in the development of artificial intelligence systems due to the export restrictions imposed by the US on advanced Nvidia chips.
1.4 Nanometer Target and New Technologies
Wang Tao stated that with Tau Scaling Law, they will be able to develop semiconductor microcircuits with performance equivalent to 1.4-nanometer chips by 2031 without the need for advanced lithography machines facing export restrictions towards China.
Optical Connection Technology
It was reported that the newly launched Atlas 960E SuperPoD system will use NPO technology, which communicates via optical connections instead of electrical connections for the first time in the industry.
