Lancet Report Reveals 17 Elements Threatening Humanity's Survival Until the End of the Century
A newly published study states that nuclear war, artificial intelligence, and biological weapons could endanger human existence by the year 2100.
A comprehensive report published in the journal The Lancet has announced 17 main elements threatening human health and the global future over the next 75 years, including nuclear conflicts, the misuse of artificial intelligence, and biological weapons.
Artificial Intelligence and Nuclear War Danger
According to a newly published report, nuclear war and the misuse of artificial intelligence could put humanity's future at risk. Although the probability of these threats is low, it was stated that they carry the potential to bring about the end of humanity by 2100.
Professor Christopher Murray, co-chair of the commission, stated that the decisions leaders make today will directly shape the health and well-being of future generations.
17 Major Global Threats Listed
The research lists 17 core dangers that could harm human health over the next 75 years. It was emphasized that these issues are interconnected and must be addressed collectively.
The list includes nuclear war, the misuse of artificial intelligence, climate change, air pollution, childhood malnutrition, obesity, and cuts in international aid.
Loss of Healthy Life Years
Researchers examined how many healthy life years could be lost due to disease, disability, or premature death. The disability-adjusted life year metric was used to estimate the impact.
Threats that could lead to the loss of more than a billion healthy life years were classified as major catastrophe threats.
Climate Change and International Aid
Limiting global warming to around 1.8 degrees instead of reaching 4.4 degrees could prevent the loss of 1.89 billion healthy life years.
A major drop or collapse in international health aid could cause 1.5 billion healthy life years to be lost by 2100.
