A new poll conducted by Reuters and Ipsos revealed that a large portion of U.S. voters believe the presidential administration and Congress are not taking the risks posed by artificial intelligence seriously enough. The research also reveals strong bipartisan support for regulation of AI.
Concerns Over AI Risks
According to the results of the six-day poll, 57% of registered voters stated that the Trump administration does not take AI risks seriously enough.
In the same poll, 54% of participants stated that Congress shows the same indifference, and this technology has become a major campaign issue.
Anxiety Over Employment and the Future of Humanity
Approximately 62% of voters reported concerns that AI could get out of hand and endanger the future of humanity.
On the other hand, 84% of voters consider AI a direct threat to American workers.
Government Policies and Regulations
President Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed his support for AI and the construction of data centers, seeing them as vital to the country's competitiveness.
In contrast, the poll showed that a cross-party majority of American voters support stricter government controls on artificial intelligence.
Military Targets and Data Centers
56% of surveyed voters stated they support the idea of placing limits on new data center constructions.
Additionally, 57% of voters argue that the U.S. government should not use artificial intelligence to determine military attack targets.
