Marquette University Poll: 64 Percent of Americans View Artificial Intelligence Negatively
A new study has revealed that an overwhelming majority of citizens in the US find artificial intelligence detrimental to society, yet usage remains at high levels.
According to a recent public opinion poll conducted by Marquette University, 64 percent of US citizens argue that artificial intelligence will produce negative consequences for society as a whole.
Poll Results
The survey conducted by Marquette University between September 2 and 9 with 1,023 participants has been completed.
Within the scope of the research, it was determined that 64 percent of the participants evaluate artificial intelligence as bad for society.
Usage Rates
Despite the negative perspectives expressed regarding the technology, it was determined that a high rate of 69 percent of participants use artificial intelligence tools.
Calls from Industry Leaders
While debates on slowing down the pace of development of artificial intelligence technologies continue, calls have intensified out of concern that they could reach dangerous dimensions.
Figures such as Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk had requested that the work be slowed down.
Administration Approach
The administration of US President Donald Trump, on the other hand, adopts an approach that encourages innovation and opposes new restrictive regulations.
Trump had argued that slowing down the work would provide an advantage to China and criticized concerns on this issue.
