As competition in the field of artificial intelligence heats up, OpenAI announced that it has expanded the GPT-6 series with the Sol and Luna versions following the Astra model, and made the new models available to users with 50 percent cheaper API prices.
GPT-6 Family Expands
Right after Anthropic announced its Opus 5.5 model, OpenAI officially revealed the Sol and Luna models joining the GPT-6 family.
The company emphasized that both new models are more affordable and produce much better results compared to previous-generation models.
Standout Features of Sol and Luna
Among the new models, Sol demonstrates superior performance particularly in coding and complex workloads, making half as many errors as its predecessor in internal tests.
Luna, on the other hand, was specifically designed for everyday use cases such as scanning and summarizing documents, providing information, and answering short questions.
Fifty Percent Discount on API Prices
One of the most notable changes in the AI world was the price reduction on the API side, with GPT-6 Sol and Luna offered 50 percent cheaper compared to older versions.
OpenAI officials stated that this cost reduction was achieved thanks to improvements made in inference and caching technologies.
Access Options Offered to Users
The new artificial intelligence models became accessible via ChatGPT Work and Codex platforms for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu subscribers.
Additionally, GPT-6 Luna is being offered to Free and Go users via the desktop application, with general access being rolled out gradually.
