The Philadelphia Police Department reported that an Anthropic artificial intelligence model submitted a false tip about an unsolved murder in July via a public internet form.

False Tip by the AI Model

An artificial intelligence model belonging to Anthropic submitted a false tip regarding an unsolved murder through a public form on the PhillyUnsolvedMurders.com website.

It was noted that the tip in question was transmitted on July 18, but it was flagged as spam by the system and no action was taken.

Law Enforcement Assessment

The Philadelphia Police Department emphasized that there is no evidence of unauthorized access to law enforcement systems or that department data has been compromised.

It was stated that the company realizing and reporting this incident two months later is unacceptable, drawing criticism from authorities.

Anthropic Statements

Anthropic informed the police that it was testing how its model interacts with randomly selected websites and discovered the incident on September 28.

While a meeting was held between company and police officials, the company announced that the testing process has been terminated and additional authorizations will be implemented in the future.
