Penn State Announces New Artificial Intelligence Grants For Faculty

Penn State has announced that applications for two new grant programs have opened through the Center for Artificial Intelligence Foundations in Teaching and Learning to support the integration of artificial intelligence into courses.

Details of the Microgrant Program

The AI in Curricular Integration Microgrant Program provides support to individual faculty members for small-scale integration of generative artificial intelligence.

Under the program, individual faculty members are awarded up to $1,000, and a maximum of 50 grants are planned to be distributed in the spring semester.

Large-Scale Transformation Grants

The Large Course Transformation Grant Program was created to support team efforts at the course or program level.

The program offers awards of up to $50,000 for teams consisting of three or more faculty members and will fund projects for the 2027-28 academic year.

Application Requirements and Criteria

Grant proposals are required to incorporate experiential learning, redesigned assessment, or civic engagement alongside artificial intelligence integration.

Additionally, applicants are required to complete Penn State's AI Fundamentals training and secure the support of their unit heads.

AI Transformation Initiative

Both programs align with the AI Transformation Initiative, which reflects the university's human-centric vision.

Funds can be used in areas such as course buyouts, software subscriptions, course materials, student assistant support, and professional development.
