Art and Youth Evaluation from Master Sculptor Hasan Canel
Mersin-based educator and sculptor Hasan Canel discussed the city's cultural and artistic history and the transmission of art to the younger generation through the streets.
Hasan Canel, one of Mersin's well-known sculptors and educators, shared the city's cultural and artistic memory, the projects he has carried out from the past to the present, and the importance of bringing art together with young people.
Bringing Art Together with Youth
Master sculptor and educator Hasan Canel evaluated the process of the city meeting with art and the projects he has implemented, drawing attention to the importance of carrying art to the streets and young generations.
Education and Professional Career
A graduate of Istanbul Atatürk Education Institute, Department of Painting and Crafts, Canel stated that he served as a Painting and Crafts teacher at Mersin Tevfik Sırrı Gür High School between 1976 and 2003, helping young people encounter art.
Institutional and Association Activities
Having served as a Board Member of the İçel Art Club between 2006 and 2020, Canel is a founding member of the Mersin 68ers Association and continues his role as a board member.
City Council Work
He served as the Art Advisor for the Akdeniz National Education Directorate and spearheaded the establishment of the Culture and Art Working Group within the Executive Board of the Akdeniz Municipality City Council.
Street Art Projects
Stating that they organized comprehensive art events for three years opposite the Stone Building, Canel expressed that they have undertaken projects such as the Mersin Art Street Stone Sculpture and Painting Events and the Street Artists Festival on Kushimoto Street.
Events for Children and Youth
Implementing the Children Are My Breath events for children and youth within the scope of April 23, Canel noted that they have been carrying out the Mersin Recognizes Its Artists project in the name of Nuri Abaç every year in cooperation with the Toroslar National Education Directorate.
National and Regional Festivals
Canel also stated that he has taken part in organizations such as the Mersin International Citrus Festival, Eskişehir Odunpazarı Wood Sculpture Festival, Çukurova International Art Event, and Osmaniye Anatolian Culture Festival.
