Call for public release of technical and legal documents regarding the evacuation of Trabzon Art House
YENİ Party MP Sibel Suiçmez reacted to the evacuation of Trabzon Art House to be given to the conservatory, demanding the disclosure of all technical and legal documents.
YENİ Party Trabzon MP Sibel Suiçmez reacted to the evacuation of Trabzon Art House, which has hosted ten art organizations for twenty years, and its allocation to Trabzon University State Conservatory, demanding that all technical and legal documents of the process be disclosed.
Reaction to Intervention in Cultural Memory
YENİ Party Trabzon MP Sibel Suiçmez brought the issue to the agenda at a press conference she held at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Suiçmez stated that the evacuation of Trabzon Art House is not merely the allocation of a building, but directly constitutes an intervention in the city's culture and art memory.
Process of Removing Artists from the Building
In the statement, it was expressed that the artists and relevant art organizations were removed from the building via police intervention. It was noted that despite objections, the doors were opened accompanied by police and locksmiths to enter the building, and the process was carried out harshly.
Technical Inadequacy and Zoning Questions
Emphasizing that the building was not designed as an education campus, the deputy reminded that the structure has six small rooms and a historical character. Questions were raised as to how technical requirements such as classrooms, rehearsal areas, and acoustic arrangements necessary for conservatory education would be met.
No Alternative Venue Provided
Stating that the university's need for space is understood, but the solution to this is not taking a venue carrying the city's twenty-year cultural memory away from the artists, Suiçmez added that no permanent alternative venue was shown to the evicted art organizations.
