The Izmir State Opera and Ballet is beginning the 2026-2027 art season performances of its production that reinterprets Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's famous Requiem, which he passed away before completing, through the language of contemporary dance.

New Season Performances Begin

The Izmir State Opera and Ballet will begin the new season performances of its production staging Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem in the language of contemporary dance starting tomorrow.

Having first held its world premiere on April 22, 2026, this special production is once again presented for the appreciation of audiences in the 2026-2027 art season.

History and Meaning of the Work

Requiem, which Mozart began working on shortly before his death and passed away without completing, ranks among the most interpreted works in music history.

Carrying the character of a traditional elegy written on death, this work is re-handled in İZDOB's staging by blending it with the expressive possibilities of contemporary dance.

Consisting of Five Different Sections

The one-act production, choreographed by Emrecan Tanış, deeply examines the relationship human beings establish with their own existence.

The work is structured over five sections titled Ego, Innocence, Time, Moment, and Essence, carrying the layers of the self to the stage.

Death as a Process of Transformation

In choreographer Tanış's stage approach, death is processed not merely as a physical end, but also as a process of transformation and dissolution.

The human's relationship with themselves and time, processes of dissolution, and inner transformations are conveyed to the audience through movement.

A Strong Artistic Cast

The production's choreography assistantship was carried out by Katariina Luukas, and its set design was entrusted to Kaan Güreşçi.

Costume design was carried out by Gülay Korkut Dinç, light design by Oğuz Murat Yılmaz, and video production by Ahmet Şeren.

Staging Schedule and Venue Information

The W. A. Mozart Requiem production opens to art lovers at the Bornova Culture and Art Center Necdet Aydın Stage.

The work continues to meet audiences on specified dates with sessions at 20.00 and 15.00.
