The production of the beloved horror movie series 28 Years Later's third film has been put on the back burner due to the inability to secure a budget, despite the script being completed.

Funding Uncertainty in the Project

Director Danny Boyle announced at the London Film Festival that the script for the new film is ready, but the necessary funding has not yet been secured.

Stating that screenwriter Alex Garland has completed his work, Boyle expressed hope that the film will be brought to life, though it is not currently among the priority projects.

Busy Schedule and Other Projects

It was noted that budget is not the only obstacle in front of the project, as screenwriter Alex Garland is also directing the A24 film adaptation of the popular video game Elden Ring.

Boyle conveyed that due to Garland being occupied with this large-scale project, the new installment of the 28 Years Later series is on hold for now.

Cast and Previous Films

Speaking at the Zurich Film Festival, Boyle stated that he believes the series will continue and that Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy will hold an important place in the new story.

While the first film of the series grossed $151.4 million worldwide, the second film, The Bone Temple, directed by Nia DaCosta, achieved $58.5 million in box office revenue.
