130 Million Bottles Recycled in Two Months with the Deposit-Based Packaging System
Millions of beverage packages were brought back into the economy thanks to the eco-friendly practice launched nationwide in July.
Implemented nationwide on July 1st, the Deposit-Based Packaging System achieved great success in a short time, integrating 130 million beverage packages into recycling processes in just a two-month period.
Scope and Expansion of the Application
The Deposit-Based Packaging System, implemented nationwide as of July 1st, continues to spread rapidly and rescues millions of products slated for the trash.
Various materials such as bottles, cans, and glass packaging are directly recovered for reproduction through this mechanism.
Return Process and Incentive Payments
An incentive fee of 1 lira is paid to users for each eligible beverage package returned by citizens.
Returned packages have their barcodes verified via deposit return machines and are then crushed and prepared for processing.
Distribution of Recycled Materials
The distribution of the 130 million packages collected since the launch of the system varies at certain rates according to the material type.
Approximately 67 percent of the collected materials consist of PET, 17 percent of aluminum, and 16 percent of glass packaging types.
Environmental and Economic Gains
The positive environmental contribution of the recycling activities carried out is not limited to reducing the amount of waste.
Within just a two-month period, 246 tons of carbon dioxide emissions were prevented, and a total of 47 thousand barrels of oil were saved.
