The practice, where citizens receive a 1 lira incentive for each eligible beverage packaging returned, has made a major contribution to the environment.
Under the system where citizens earn a 1 lira incentive fee for each eligible packaging item returned, 130 million beverage packages have been successfully recycled to date.
Recycling rates
PET packaging accounted for approximately 67 percent of the collected packaging, while aluminum made up 17 percent and glass packaging represented 16 percent.
Environmental and economic benefits
Thanks to the recycled packaging, approximately 246 tons of carbon dioxide emissions were prevented and 47 thousand barrels of oil were saved.
In addition, a total of 11.4 gigawatt-hours of energy savings were achieved, contributing to the reduction of natural resource use.
Working system and machines
Packaging items featuring the logo delivered to Deposit Return Machines are verified via barcodes, counted, and digitally recorded.
Sorting process at facilities
Materials collected from manual return points are checked at centers and sorted into PET, glass, and aluminum.
