At the 15th Insurance Week and 5th International Insurance Summit held in Turkey, the impacts of climate change on the economy were addressed. Sector representatives announced that they will work to increase the country's economic resilience and reduce the protection gap.

Insurance Week and Summit

The main theme of the 15th Insurance Week, celebrated between October 5th and 11th, was determined as Four Elements, Single Assurance. In this context, the 5th International Insurance Summit was held on October 8, 2026, at the Istanbul Finance Center Ziraat Bank Auditorium.

Economic Size and Funds

Turkey Insurance Association President Ahmet Yaşar stated in his speech at the summit that the funds provided to the economy by the insurance and pension sector have reached 3.6 trillion liras. Yaşar expressed that insurance plays a critical role in terms of long-term savings, investment, and economic stability.

Loans and Urban Transformation

Ahmet Yaşar noted that banks cannot grant loans without the support of the insurance sector and that major investments need assurance. He also pointed out that tax and competition barriers must be removed for the widespread adoption of building completion insurance in urban transformation.

Climate Risks and Report

During the Insurance Week events, the results of the AXA Turkey Climate Report 2026 were also shared with the public. The report emphasized that water scarcity, extreme temperatures, wildfires, floods, and landslides will be the prominent climate risks in the upcoming period.
