The European Union has announced support for forty-six new strategic projects to avert a potential trade crisis with China and secure the supply of critical raw materials.

Critical Raw Materials Projects Announced

The European Union has announced its decision to support a total of forty-six new strategic critical raw material projects in order to prevent potential trade tensions.

This strategic move aims to accelerate critical raw material supplies across the continent by twenty thirty and minimize the impacts of potential crises.

Preparation Against a Potential Trade Crisis

Industry Commissioner Stéphane Séjourné stated that a crisis could be faced in the coming months and trade tensions could be triggered in certain sectors.

Séjourné emphasized that preparations must be made for this situation and necessary precautions have begun to be taken immediately as a union.

Financing and Sectoral Scope

Supply facilities of vital importance for the automotive, defense, and renewable energy sectors, such as lithium, gallium, and rare earth elements, were included in the project.

It was reported that the total financing cost of these newly announced projects is around twenty-one billion euros.

Ongoing Talks in Beijing

These projects were announced to the public simultaneously with Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič's contacts in Beijing.

During the talks, attention was drawn to the unsustainable dimensions of China's trade surplus against the union, aiming to reduce this imbalance.
