Fund Crisis and Global Economy Assessment from Prof. Dr. Sinan Alçın
Prof. Dr. Sinan Alçın comprehensively analyzed the impact of fund liquidation processes on markets, pressures on the real sector, and power struggles on a global scale.
Prof. Dr. Sinan Alçın evaluated the liquidation process in 17 funds belonging to three companies, its reflections on capital markets, the MSCI decision, the challenges faced by the real sector, and global economic developments.
Reflections of the Fund Crisis
Evaluating the payment and liquidation process initiated in 17 funds belonging to three companies, Prof. Dr. Sinan Alçın stated that the judicial aspect of the incident and the regulation processes of capital markets must be separated from each other.
Drawing attention to the fact that the ongoing process resembles the 2001 crisis, Alçın expressed his hope that the current fund scandal will make capital markets safer through rational criteria, strict audits, and transparent public offering principles.
MSCI and Index Developments
Regarding the picture presented by MSCI and foreign index providers, he stated that the announcement regarding Turkey remaining on the MSCI emerging markets list is of critical importance.
He expressed that the constructive steps taken following the processes of index providers such as FTSE Russell, S&P, and Dow Jones have yielded positive results.
Real Sector Pressures
Touching upon the pressures on the real sector, Alçın pointed to factors such as banks calling in loans, deteriorations in companies' cash flows, and loss of appetite in retail sales.
He emphasized that the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) easing credit card and installment limits was aimed at mitigating the contraction.
Central Bank and Interest Rate Expectations
Referring to CBRT Governor Fatih Karahan's determination that money exiting the fund has turned towards deposits, Alçın stated that in light of high inflation data and cash tightening, the probability of the CBRT initiating an interest rate cut process has strengthened.
Global Bond Markets
Examining global economic developments as well, Alçın pointed out that US 10-year and 30-year bond yields have climbed to 24-year highs, seeing levels of 5.30 percent.
Geopolitical Risks and Restructuring
He stated that problems such as the China-Taiwan tension, the energy crisis in Europe, Israel's policies, and increasing defense expenditures maintain their existence.
He emphasized that these turbulences indicate that the world economy is moving towards a reset or restructuring process.
Techno-Oligarchs and Global Power Struggles
Interpreting the global power struggle through Elon Musk's Starlink investments in India and Donald Trump's steps, Alçın stated that India has become a key market.
He noted that the relationship between techno-oligarchs and sovereign states is reshaping global balances.
