German Rhenus Group to Establish 14 Terminals Along the Middle Corridor
Aimed at strengthening freight transport between Europe and Asia, the Rhenus Group is implementing new logistics investments on the route extending to Turkey.
German logistics company Rhenus Group aims to establish a network of 14 terminals on the route stretching from Uzbekistan to Turkey in order to expand its infrastructure along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
Integration of European and Asian Networks
Rhenus Group CEO Tobias Bartz announced that the new network, starting from Uzbekistan and progressing through Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan to Turkey, will be integrated with the company's existing facilities in Europe.
New Terminal Investment at Aktau Port
In the first phase of the project, a new container terminal will be developed at Aktau Port in Kazakhstan. A cooperation agreement was signed with KTZ and the port management for this facility.
The terminal, to be established on an area of at least 30 hectares, is projected to contribute at least 150,000 TEU to the annual container handling capacity.
Increase in Middle Corridor Transport Volume
Container transport in the Middle Corridor, which connects China and Central Asia to Europe via Turkey, showed a 36 percent increase in 2025.
The European Commission aims to triple the trade volume by 2030 by increasing corridor investments to 12 billion euros.
Infrastructure and Modernization in Central Asia
While Rhenus acquired a rail-connected terminal in the Almaty region, it plans an 11 million euro investment for the facility in Andijan, Uzbekistan.
