According to data released by the German Statistics Office, industrial production increased by 2 percent in August, exceeding economists' expectation of 0.5 percent and recording its largest increase in the last 17 months.

Details of the Increase in Industrial Production

According to data from the German Statistics Office, industrial production rose by 2 percent in August, compensating for the decline experienced in the previous month. Economists participating in a Bloomberg survey had expected a 0.5 percent increase.

The Statistics Office reported that this increase in production stemmed primarily from the construction sector, but a meaningful increase was also seen in the category excluding energy and construction.

Sectoral Distribution and Growth Expectations

While automobile production recorded a decline, the production of capital goods followed a particularly strong course. It is stated that the released data will restore confidence in Europe's largest economy.

Economists expect growth to rise from this year's level of 1 percent to 1.2 percent in 2028, while leading research institutions raised their 2026 forecast to 1.3 percent.

Economic Risks and Momentum

In the six-month period up to June, strong export demand and spending on artificial intelligence managed to offset the impact of weak investment and consumption.

The war involving Iran and high energy costs are among the significant risk factors that could continue to suppress Germany's growth.
