Heavy Penalties for Misleading Advertisements from the Ministry of Trade Advertising Board

The Ministry of Trade Advertising Board continued its inspections targeting businesses that mislead consumers and make untrue promises. Within this scope, administrative fines were imposed on a café that did not provide unlimited tea, supermarkets using statements contrary to regulations, and a cosmetics company advertising hair spray.

Penalty for the Unlimited Tea Promise

It was determined that Koçlar Cafe Restaurant, operating in Istanbul, promised unlimited tea in its breakfast plate advertisements.

However, inspections revealed that this promise was not actually provided to customers, and the business was fined 108,370 Turkish Lira.

Misleading Advertisements by Supermarkets

A discount supermarket was fined 863,580 Turkish Lira after it was determined that it used prohibited terms for milk and rice products.

In another chain supermarket branch, a fine of 86,358 Turkish Lira was imposed because a chocolate product announced to be sold for 44 TL was sold for 65 TL.

Million-Lira Fine for a Cosmetic Product

Claims in the promotion of the product named Uraw Blue Spray, offered for sale by Uraw Kozmetik A.Ş., were examined.

Due to these promotions containing statements contrary to regulations, the company was fined 10,837,000 Turkish Lira.

Social Media Listing Inspections

The Ministry of Trade tightened its inspections targeting businesses sharing real estate and automobile listings via social media.

A total of 8.2 million Turkish Lira in administrative fines was imposed on 42 real estate and 40 gallery businesses that posted listings contrary to regulations.
