Electricity generation from solar and wind energy in Türkiye broke a record in August by reaching the highest monthly value of all time. According to data from the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the total production of the two sources rose to 9.9 billion kilowatt-hours.

Production Figures in Solar and Wind

Across Türkiye, electricity generation from solar energy reached 5.16 billion kilowatt-hours and from wind energy 4.74 billion kilowatt-hours in August. The total production of these two clean energy sources climbed to a record 9.9 billion kilowatt-hours, the highest monthly value of all time.

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar stated that ongoing investments continue to be reflected in production figures with records. In August, the share of solar in total production was recorded at 14.1 percent, while the share of wind was 12.9 percent.

Total Electricity Generation and Sources

According to data from the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Türkiye's total electricity generation in August was 36.71 billion kilowatt-hours. The combined share of solar and wind power plants stood at the 27 percent level.

Hydraulic sources took the largest share of electricity generation in August. Hydroelectric power plants generated 9.08 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, meeting 24.7 percent of the total production.

Share of Renewable and Domestic Sources

Production from all renewable sources in August was recorded at 20.7 billion kilowatt-hours. This amount brought the share of renewable energy in total production to 56.4 percent.

The total amount of electricity provided from domestic sources was 25.58 billion kilowatt-hours, accounting for 69.7 percent of total production.

Daily Production and the Eight-Month Period

During the year, daily electricity generation reached 1,241,291 megawatt-hours on August 13, hitting the highest level of 2026.

In the first eight months of 2026, electricity generated from renewable sources reached 149.8 billion kilowatt-hours, making up 60.3 percent of the total production.
