Inflation Limit Regulation on Public Transportation Price Hikes on the Agenda
As municipal public transportation fare increases remaining above inflation negatively affect the disinflation process, a new restriction approach is being evaluated.
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz emphasized that intra-city transportation price hikes implemented by local administrations exceeding the inflation rate negatively affect the disinflation process, and announced that they are preparing to introduce an inflation limit on public transportation increases.
Disinflation Process and the Service Sector
While the downward trend in inflation continues, the annual rate has declined to below 30 percent. The effects of steps taken to ensure macroeconomic stability continue to be seen.
Although the disinflation process is progressing gradually, the stickiness created by price increases in the service sector maintains its pressure on general inflation.
Cevdet Yilmaz's Statements
Answering questions during a program, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz stated that local administrations set urban transportation prices above inflation.
Yılmaz noted that high increases implemented by local administrations in urban transportation negatively affect inflation, and conveyed that there is an approach to establish a limit so that increases are not made well above inflation.
Current Transportation Tariffs in Istanbul
Within the scope of public transportation prices in Istanbul, the full ticket is at the level of 46.20 liras, the student ticket is 22.55 liras, the student ticket for those over 30 is 41.58 liras, and the social card is 33.08 liras.
Metrobus fares start from 33.08 liras and can go up to 68.59 liras depending on the number of stops traveled.
Current Transportation Fares in Ankara
Public transportation fares in Ankara, effective as of August 23, 2026, cover EGO buses, Ankaray, Metro, Başkentray, and private public buses.
With Başkent Kart, the full boarding fee is applied as 40 TL, discounted boarding as 20 TL, full transfer as 20 TL, discounted transfer as 12 TL, boarding with a credit card as 46 TL, and the teacher boarding fee as 30 TL.
Current Transportation Tariffs in Izmir
In Izmir, with Izmirim Kart, the full boarding fee is applied as 35 TL, the youth and student tariff as 17.50 TL, the teacher fee as 23.50 TL, and the 60-plus tariff as 29 TL.
Boarding with a contactless card rises to 39 TL, while the full boarding fee on İZBAN is 40 TL, and an additional fee per kilometer is charged based on distance for journeys exceeding 20 kilometers.
