In the village of Bingöl in Sivas, the traditional salt production made with saline water extracted from 50 meters underground has transitioned to a mechanization period due to labor shortage issues.
The Process Stretching from Underground to Tables
The salt pan located in the village of Bingöl, 10 kilometers from the center of Sivas, carries out production by filling pools with saline water containing approximately 84 different minerals.
Mechanization Chosen Due to Lack of Workers
Salt producer Fikri Çiçek stated that they transitioned from traditional methods to a mechanization system in order to reduce labor costs and increase efficiency.
Production and Structure of the Pools
Evaporation is accelerated by the effect of wind and sun in massive pools, each measuring 3 to 4 thousand square meters, thereby significantly increasing production capacity.
Harvest Process and the Impact of Rainfall
The harvest, carried out in October, is directly affected by the amount of rainfall during the summer months; arid and hot weather positively supports production.
Factory Stages and Packaging
The harvested salt is washed in the factory and subjected to drying, crushing, and grinding processes before being packaged according to customer demands.
