New Regulations in Private Hospitals Regulation Published in Official Gazette
With the new regulation published in the Official Gazette, inspection exemptions, X-ray and laboratory conditions, and specialization staff for private hospitals have been redefined.
Comprehensive amendments made to the Private Hospitals Regulation have entered into force after being published in the Official Gazette. The new regulation introduces innovations in many areas ranging from the inspection periods of accredited hospitals to physical standards, from laboratory and X-ray requirements to patients from private clinics.
Inspection Exemption Periods
Regular inspection exemption periods have been reorganized for private hospitals accredited by the Health Care Quality and Accreditation Institute of Turkey. Hospitals in the platinum or gold categories will be exempt from inspections for three years, those in the silver category for two years, and those in the bronze category for one year.
X-Ray and Laboratory Conditions
Within the scope of the obligation to maintain an X-ray device, hospitals will be required to have one mobile X-ray or a device with a power of at least 500 mA. This condition can also be met through on-site service procurement. In addition, while the obligation to have medical biochemistry and microbiology laboratories has been introduced, staff positions may be allocated by the Ministry for missing specialist physician cadres.
Physical Standards and Staff
The deviation tolerance of up to 2 percent in the minimum physical standard measurements of all units in private hospitals has been increased to 5 percent. While the phrasing regarding specialization staff has been updated, the training program condition approved by the Ministry was taken as a basis instead of the foundation university protocol. In the assignment of staff physicians, the priority phrasing was changed to preferred.
Private Clinic Patients and Exceptions
In cases where patients coming from private clinics cannot be treated in the contracted hospital, special permission can be obtained from the provincial health directorate to perform procedures in another hospital. The procedures and principles of these processes will be determined by the Ministry. Hospitals licensed before January 30, 2025, will be able to benefit from physical condition exemptions under certain conditions.
