New Peak in Consumer Loans

According to BDDK data, the non-performing loan ratio in consumer loans was recorded at 6.75 percent as of October 2.

This rate surpassed the previous peak of 6.66 percent seen in the 2016-2017 period, reaching the highest level in the 2014-2026 dataset.

Comparison with Past Periods

The non-performing loan ratio in consumer loans had declined following the peak in the 2016-2017 period and dropped to lower levels in the 2022-2023 period.

The ratio, which started to rise again in the subsequent period, exceeded its former record, indicating that repayment difficulties have become prominent once again.

Non-Performing Loan Ratio in Credit Cards

The non-performing loan ratio in individual credit cards also climbed to 5.7 percent as of October 2.

Across the entire banking sector, the non-performing loan ratio stood at 3.2 percent, demonstrating that the risk is prominent in retail products.

Comparison with Sector Average

The 6.75 percent non-performing loan ratio in consumer loans reached more than twice the banking sector's general average of 3.2 percent.

The 5.7 percent ratio seen in individual credit cards also significantly exceeded the sector average, revealing that problems are concentrated in these areas.
