Number of Investors and Foreign Share Changed on Borsa Istanbul in September 2026
While the index declined on the stock exchange in September 2026, the drop in the number of domestic investors drew attention, and the foreign custody ratio reached the highest level of the year.
In September 2026, when the Borsa Istanbul index lost 16.65% in value, the number of domestic investors decreased while the custody ratio of foreigners in the publicly traded portion recorded a notable increase.
Drop in the Number of Investors
According to Central Registry Agency data, the number of investors with equity balances on Borsa Istanbul decreased by 105,019 people in September 2026 compared to the previous month, falling to 6,693,054.
Domestic Investor Data
The number of domestic equity investors with balances, which was 6,764,800 in August, dropped to 6,659,653 in September, with the total one-month decrease recorded as 105,147 people.
Number of Foreign Investors
The number of foreign equity investors with balances rose from 33,273 in August to 33,401 in September, showing a limited increase of 128 people on a monthly basis.
Jump in the Custody Ratio
Despite the limited change in the number of investors, the custody ratio of foreigners based on market value increased from 32.62% to 36.93% in September, experiencing a 4.31 percentage point increase in a single month.
Domestic and Foreign Ratios
Faced with the foreign share reaching its highest level since January, the custody ratio of domestic investors fell from 67.38% to 63.07% over the same period.
