Portable Tent Fold Project Protects Flocks in Aksaray
80 producers have benefited from the project implemented to support small ruminant breeding and reduce the impact of adverse weather conditions.
Implemented across Aksaray to support small ruminant breeding, increase the number of breeding stock, and encourage producers, the Portable Tent Fold Project protects flocks from harsh weather conditions.
Purpose and Scope of the Project
The portable tent fold project is being implemented in Aksaray to increase the number of breeding stock in small ruminant breeding and raise the share of small ruminants in red meat production.
Insulation and Animal Welfare
Offering a cool environment in summer and a warm one in winter thanks to their four-layer special insulation structure and ventilation windows, the portable facilities directly enhance animal welfare.
Producer Preferences and Usage Area
Preventing flocks from being adversely affected by seasonal conditions, this system is frequently preferred by producers raising calves as well as small ruminant livestock.
Statements of Support from the Provincial Directorate
Aksaray Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Nejdet Demir emphasized that the city is one of Turkey's leading livestock centers with its 1.2 million small ruminant population.
It was reported that the 50 percent grant-supported portable tent fold opportunity is provided to producers with 100 to 300 head of livestock.
Future Goals
It was stated that this year, with KOP support, 25 more producers became eligible to receive tent folds, and if 20 projects submitted to the Ministry are approved, a total of 45 more folds will be put into service.
Advantages from the Producer's Perspective
Tuncer Derin, who benefited from the grant support in Kökez village, stated that tent folds offer major advantages in terms of animal health compared to conventional structures.
The producer reported that they securely house nearly 200 small ruminants in the modern fold with an area of 250 square meters.
