Reaction from Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Baghaei to US Economic Sanctions
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated that the economic pressures exerted by the US explicitly threaten international law, the United Nations Charter, and the principle of sovereign equality of states.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei announced that the new economic moves by the US targeting Iran directly target not only a single country, but the sovereign rights of all states and the international legal order.
Emphasis on Global Order and Sovereignty
Making statements on the US-based X platform, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei sharply criticized the Washington administration's remarks that 'Iran's economic day of reckoning has arrived' as well as its new sanction steps.
Baghaei expressed that it is unacceptable for a country to force other states, financial institutions, commercial enterprises, ports, and airports to bow to its demands.
Warning on International Law and UN Charter
The Iranian Spokesperson argued that threatening sanctions in the event of non-compliance with Washington's impositions undermines the foundation of the international system. He stated that this situation is contrary to the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter.
Reacting to an approach that demands unconditional obedience to illegal steps, Baghaei underlined the need to respect the sovereign equality of states and the right of peoples to self-determination.
