Recovery trend and expectations are increasing in the German economy
The Ifo expectations index rose to 89.1 in August, achieving the longest streak since 2023, while the Bundesbank announced that the economy is recovering.
In Germany, the Ifo Institute's expectations index reached 89.1 in August, leaving behind the longest-running recovery streak recorded since 2023.
Rise in the Ifo Expectations Index
The expectations index announced by the Ifo Institute rose from the previous month's revised level of 86.8 to 89.1 points in August. With this development, the economy registered its longest-running recovery streak since 2023.
Results Above Market Forecasts
The median forecast in the Bloomberg survey was that the index would rise to 87.5. The actual figure showed a performance above market expectations.
Current Conditions and Second-Quarter Growth
The indicator measuring current conditions also rose to 88.5. On the other hand, the German economy grew more than initial estimates in the second quarter, with exports being the driving force behind the 0.3 percent growth.
Bundesbank's Assessments
The Bundesbank warned that low water levels in the Rhine River have negatively affected economic activity in recent weeks. Despite this, the institution states that Europe's largest economy is clearly on the path to recovery.
