Starvation limit exceeded 37 thousand liras in August
According to Türk-İş data, living costs in Ankara increased and reached new levels in August.
The August 2026 survey by the Türk-İş Confederation revealed the increases in the starvation and poverty thresholds for a family of four in Ankara.
Starvation and poverty thresholds increased
The results of the August 2026 survey, conducted monthly by the Türk-İş Confederation, were shared with the public. According to the calculations made, an increase in basic living costs was recorded.
Food expenditures rose
The monthly food expenditure amount required for a family of four living in Ankara to have a healthy, balanced, and adequate diet rose to the level of 37,388 TL.
The amount of the poverty threshold was announced
The poverty threshold, which is the total amount of other compulsory expenditures such as clothing, housing, transportation, education, health, and similar items alongside food expenditure, was determined as 121,786 TL.
Living cost of a single employee
According to the survey results, the monthly living cost of a single employee living alone was calculated as 48,305 TL.
Change rates compared to the previous month
In July, the starvation limit was at 36,940 TL, and the poverty limit was at 120,325 TL. In August, the increase in food expenditure took place at a rate of 1.21 percent compared to the previous month.
Annual inflation change
As of August, the twelve-month rate of change in food expenditures was recorded as 37.90 percent.
