Turkey's deficit in digital and intellectual technology services is increasing

While Turkey continues to run a surplus in general services export and import, the deficit in the digital technology-intensive and intellectual services category continues to grow.

General services balance and surplus status

Turkey maintains its position of running a surplus in service exports and imports. Along with the recent increase in freight revenues in particular, the surplus generated continues to show an upward trend.

The services balance surplus increased by 3.6 percent on an annualized basis in July compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching $63.5 billion.

Deficit in telecommunications and computer services

A clear upward trend is observed in the deficit given in digital technology-intensive services. This scope includes areas such as voice and data transmission, satellite operations, data management, and custom software development.

The Telecommunications, Computer, and Information Services item reached an annualized deficit of $1.3 billion in July. In the same month of the previous year, the annualized deficit was at the level of $100 million.

General picture in intellectual and creative services

An expansion is observed in Turkey's deficit in areas such as TV series sales, artificial intelligence applications, film and series platforms, and cloud software services.

The total deficit in these areas, which include various items, increased by 15.21 percent in annualized data as of July, rising to $15 billion 239 million.

Basic technological services covered

The Telecommunications, Computer, and Information Services title covers data transmission over network infrastructure, payments made to internet network operators, and custom software consultancy.

Additionally, various services such as cloud systems, content purchases, digital platform subscriptions, and access to databases are also evaluated in this category.
